FOLLOW THE PREDATORS.

Often feared, persecuted and misunderstood, hyenas are among Africa's most important predators.

Across northern Tanzania, researchers, wildlife veterinarians and Maasai communities are working together to understand how predators and people can coexist in one of Africa's most remarkable shared landscapes.

This mission offers rare access to that work.

Over eleven days, you'll step behind the scenes of an active predator conservation program in the Lake Eyasi ecosystem, joining the researchers, rangers and community partners working to protect wildlife while supporting the people who live alongside it.

As part of the mission, participants will facilitate the delivery of three GPS tracking collars for local hyenas, creating a lasting conservation legacy that will continue generating critical data long after the expedition has ended.

You'll step inside the work that makes this possible, gaining firsthand insight into the monitoring, research and decision-making that underpin predator conservation in East Africa.

Together, we'll:
  • Participate in Predator Operations Briefings, reviewing wildlife movement data, conflict reports and field intelligence alongside the conservation team to understand how real conservation decisions are made
  • Help piece together the movements and stories of individual predators across the landscape, gaining insight into the tools and technologies used to monitor wildlife across vast ecosystems
  • Join a dawn tracking team searching for fresh predator sign and reconstructing the previous night's movements across the landscape
  • Investigate human-wildlife conflict, including livestock predation events, boma assessments and the challenges of coexistence between predators and people
  • Deploy, retrieve and analyse camera trap data used in ongoing wildlife research, helping build a clearer picture of predator activity across the region
  • Deliver practical first aid training alongside local rangers, sharing skills that can support safety and emergency response in remote field environments
  • Work alongside researchers, rangers and local communities contributing to active predator conservation efforts in the Lake Eyasi ecosystem
  • Spend an evening around the fire with Maasai community members discussing the realities of living alongside lions, hyenas and other large predators

As part of the mission, you'll have behind-the-scenes access to conservation activities taking place during your stay, gaining a rare perspective on the operational realities of protecting large predators in the wild.

This is not a safari. It is an opportunity to step inside a working conservation program and experience the challenges, complexity and importance of protecting predators in one of Africa's last great shared landscapes.

And when the fieldwork is done, we'll head into the Ngorongoro Crater to experience one of the most extraordinary wildlife ecosystems on Earth and see exactly what all that effort is helping to protect.

WHY THIS MISSION?

  • Step inside an active predator conservation program and gain rare access to the researchers, rangers, wildlife veterinarians and community leaders working on the frontlines of coexistence in northern Tanzania.

  • Contribute to tangible conservation outcomes, including the delivery of three GPS tracking collars that will be fitted to local hyenas, helping researchers better understand predator movements, identify conflict hotspots and inform future conservation action across the Lake Eyasi ecosystem.

  • Explore one of conservation's most complex challenges – how people and large predators can successfully share the same landscape – through real-world research, monitoring and community-based conservation.

  • Go beyond observation and gain firsthand exposure to the tools, technologies and decision-making processes that underpin modern wildlife conservation.

  • Learn directly from local experts, Maasai community members and conservation practitioners whose knowledge and experience are shaping the future of predator conservation in the region.

  • Leave with new field skills, lasting connections and a direct link to your conservation impact through the mission's post-expedition impact report.
